Sketching and Drawing

Arabic Calligraphy

The Theory of Laughter

When we think about laughter, the first thing that comes to mind is that irresistible force, which compels us to express our agreeable emotions in an outburst.
What is laughter? Why do we laugh? Can we actually look into the theory of laughter without distorting or intellectualizing it? How can laughter be both festive and a killjoy? In the course of examining laughter, we will ponder its nature, its modalities, and its various uses and arts, which distinguish it from sarcasm, irony, derision and self-derision. In short, laughter sometimes expresses, among other things, our refusal to take the world seriously. Accordingly, isn’t every philosophical reflection grounded in the following primary existential concern: is this world too serious?
